Deciding on the invitation wording is no mean feat. You would need to take into account the setting of your wedding – Is it a traditional wedding or a fun and casual party? You would also need to take into account special situations – Would you like your guests to contribute to charity rather than give gifts? Or perhaps your event is not set up for children? All these will contribute to how your invitation can best be worded.
In general, the first line usually announces the hosts. Traditionally, these would be the bride’s and groom’s parents, but recently, it has also become common to have the bride and groom serve as hosts. In semi-formal or a more casual party, the names need not necessarily be right up front. Some variations could make the wedding invitations more lively.
A line stating “request the honour of your presence” or ” request the honour of the presence of ________” (if you would like to personally fill in your guests’ name) would follow the hosts’ name. This would be appropriate for formal weddings. For a semi-formal wedding party, these can be replaced with “request the pleasure of your company”, “cordially invite” or “warmly invite”.
The next few lines would then typically be inviting the wedding guests to join in the festivities with words like “to join us as we celebrate”.
On the next lines, the date can either be spelt out in full in a formal invitation or written as 10 June 2009 in a semi-formal invitation.
The time, on a separate line, also is written out (e.g., “five o’clock in the afternoon”) in a formal wedding invitation or as 5pm in a semi-formal invitation.

Finally, include the RSVP date and contact information.
In a semi-formal or casual wedding invitation, the wording of the wedding invitation can also be as creative as you like it to be. Favourite quotes, poems, religious phrases, and just about anything can be incorporated into the invitation.
